Our Mission

Blue Roses Project (BRP) is a not-for-profit dedicated to providing queer artists a platform to develop timely new plays that speak to life in America. BRP brings together local New Orleans artists with theatre professionals from across the United States to foster the next generation of artistic voices while celebrating the city’s rich cultural legacy. We hope to make New Orleans the country’s premier location for LGBTQ+ artists to create new work.

Year One

Grounded in our mission to give queer playwrights a platform to develop timely new plays reflecting life in America and in our commitment to make New Orleans a hub for LGBTQ+ theater, we’re launching an inaugural year of goal-oriented initiatives to bring this vision to life.

  • We will produce a 29-hour workshop reading of a yet-to-be-discovered queer playwright and jump-start the development of their new script and their career.

  • We will forge partnerships by engaging the talents of both local actors and nationally renowned artists to enrich the project.

  • We will invite local LGBTQ community organizations to participate in our process in order to root our work in New Orleans’s vibrant community.

  • We will offer paid student internships to mentor the next generation of theater-makers.

In doing all of this, Blue Roses Project stands as both a response to the cultural urgency of this moment and a celebration of creative possibility rooted in the spirit of New Orleans.
