Submitting your script
Blue Roses Project offers a space for queer playwrights to develop meaningful new works. We're glad you're thinking of us, and we want these guidelines to help your submission go smoothly.
How to Submit
Combine the following into a single PDF:

Cover letter

Resume

The script you'd like considered for development
Please also include a short section about the play, covering:

Developmental history (if any; not required)

Cast breakdown (include total number of actors)

A short synopsis
We will not review submissions that are missing any of these materials, so please check your PDF before you send it. Please, don't let your submission be disqualified for missing materials!
When submissions have reopened, you will be able to upload your submission PDF on this page.
What we're looking for

Plays

No musicals or plays with music (They're out of our budget at the moment.)

We do not read screenplays

Casts of 2-7 actor (We do not develope solo work.)

Completed, full length scripts

Emerging writers (No significant NYC production or productions at a major regional company.)

New, interesting insights into being queer in America
Our Process and Our Promise
Thank you for submitting your work to Blue Roses Project for consideration. We take the trust you've placed in us seriously. Every script is read and evaluated by a trained, experienced theatre professional, and at no point is AI used in that evaluation. Your script will not be entered into any LLMs.
Submissions Are Currently Closed
We are not accepting script submissions at this time. We'll reopen submissions on December 1, 2026 for our next cycle. Please hold onto your script until then. We look forward to reading it.
When Submissions Reopen
We've received an overwhelming number of submissions in past cycles, so for this next cycle we have to cap total submissions at 250. Once we hit that number, the window closes, even if it's ahead of schedule.
Regardless of the cap, we will not accept submissions after February 1. Whichever comes first, the 250 script cap or February 1, that's when submissions close. If you want to be considered, submit early.
If Your Script Is Selected
The selected script will receive a week long development process culminating in a 29 hour reading in New Orleans, with a director and a cast of actors from across the country.
We'll cover travel and lodging, and you'll be paid as an independent contractor for your work. In return, we ask that you commit to being in New Orleans for the full workshop.
